Jack Welde is Founder and CEO of Smartling, Inc., a provider of software tools and network services that enable rapid, high quality, affordable website translation.

Jack began his technology career in 1991, co-founding Trio Development, creating a software personal information manager that was acquired by Apple Computer and shipped as "Claris Organizer" in 1994.

Jack also served nine years as a pilot in the US Air Force, last stationed in Germany, achieving the rank of Major.  He flew 80 combat missions in Kosovo, Bosnia, Kuwait, and Haiti, and commanded several high-visibility President of the United States Advance Team missions.  Military decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal and four Air Medals.  Jack was named 1998 Aviator of the Year, United States Air Forces in Europe (USAFE).

Previously, Jack served as SVP Product for eMusic, the number two digital media provider behind iTunes.  As one of five members of the Executive Management Team, Jack provided overall company leadership and oversaw all aspects of product development.

Prior to joining eMusic, Jack has played key roles in internet companies.  In 2007 to 2008, Jack was COO and CTO for SheSpeaks, the leading product placement, market research, and word-of-mouth marketing service for the women’s market.  From 2001 to 2006, Jack was COO for RunTime Technologies, a provider of enterprise content management software for financial services companies, top-tier universities, and national associations.  In 2006, Jack served as Board Director for I Stand For, a political technology consulting firm, acquired by Global Strategy Group. 

Jack has a Computer Science Engineering degree from the University of Pennsylvania and an MBA from Cameron University in Germany. He is a Distinguished Graduate of Squadron Officer School, the USAF’s officer leadership school.
